The Wanderlust Workout

Santorini Stairclimber

This is a photograph of the an old Santorini winery staircase that runs along the Caldera. While visiting the island I spent 45 minutes a day running up and down these stairs with the most amazing ocean view.  Once I hit the stairs just before sunset, and had one of the most incredible cardio experiences of my life.

Whether jogging in Central Park, running stairs in Santorini, or hiking in Aubagne, working out on the road can be easy if you are creative, but eating well is another story.

I recently contributed a complete travel meal plan and workout guide for a great travel resource website, Boots-n-All.  If you have plans to hit the road anytime soon and want to ward off the extra vacation weight, you must read this!

While the protein and comfy running shoes are key, the most important accessory for a good travel workout is a strong set of tension bands. I searched high and low for mine prior to leaving the States, and found the perfect set from Bodylastics.  Not only do I not fear them breaking and snapping me in the ass, but the door connection piece allows you to literally mimic any in the gym workout.

Enjoy!

    Hi Rachel,
What an absolutely incredibly beautiful photograph! It could truly be a classsic Nike poster. Running those steps and trails has got to be an absolute one of a kind endorphine high. It’s going to be hard to get you on a treadmill back at Gold’s Gym.

For all the years I had to run through airports to catch a plane, I so wish I had your Wanderlust Workout Guide in tow.
